"This is one of the most refreshing books on dog training that I have read for many
years. This is a book about practical training with an immense and clear description
of the underlying behaviour within our pet dogs and how we can utilise those intrinsic
drives to enhance the training of our dogs.
This book should be a prerequisite for dog owners to read - is not just of use for
those who own Gundog breeds, but for all dog owners. The author has an informal
and empathetic style of writing that leaves the reader not only with factual, common
sense good solid dog training, but amusing anecdotes and helpful explanations throughout
which results in leaving the reader feeling as if they know the author personally.
So good do I believe this book to be, I recommended it to numerous clients before
its publication!"

breeds of dogs - it's the best book of the year"

"I have just completed reading this fantastic book and am so motivated I could call
ALL dog owners and urge them to buy it!
This ‘bible’ is packed full with fascinating information but it starts wholeheartedly
with addressing the basics foundations required before you start to embark upon
the real deal!
Reading the chapter relating to canine/primate is so enlightening and highlighted
to me how many of my dogs signals and messages I have humanised and therefore misinterpreted.
Understanding what and why a dog is really doing something then equips you with
what you need to speak canine!
The simplification of the verbal communication I have found invaluable along with
the methods described to motivate ones dog through touch, food toys, play etc. The
variety of training techniques Lez uses ensure that each dog’s temperament is addressed.
The flexibility of her ‘bespoke’ training methods rather than a ‘one size fits all’
really does demonstrate the breadth of her knowledge and skills.
I especially enjoyed the chapter on behaviour and found it refreshing to learn that
old fashioned values are still being taught. Lez shows how to teach you dog self
control an enormously beneficial attribute that not only helps create a steady dog
but one that you can trust. Again straight forward methods that are flexible enough
for you to get the best out of your dog. All this with the added benefit of friends
and neighbours who will admire your well behaved dog!
Re-inforcing the hierarchy as urged by Lez has been an essential part of the training
for both me and my dog, I believe it has provided him with the reassurance of his
security and rank and even though I respect my dog I still have ground rules that
are non- negotiable.
The description and demonstrations of the retrieves are exceptionally well documented
and photographed all clear and concise.
This is a MUST HAVE book for any dog owner who like members of their family to show
respect to each and others and to be well mannered. My copy is well thumbed already
and I will not be lending it to anyone, they will have to buy their own!"
